My heart lies in shattered pieces at your feet.
You carefully attempt to sidestep the carnage.
You wince as scattered shards are crushed to dust beneath your heel.
You pat me on the shoulder and say, “Sorry”. Then you are gone.

But you are not free of me!
Tiny fragments of my heart will always be attached to your sole.
